The Lakeview Amphitheater opened Thursday, Sept. 3.

The Carrier Dome today added a major country concert to its spring lineup of events. So did the War Memorial.

Absolutely nothing happened with the new Lakeview Amphitheater.

Predictably, however, both concert announcements were met with a chorus of complaints, voicing the same refrain that followed nearly every announcement this spring: "Why isn't this at the amphitheater?"

"You mean it won't be held at the Amphitheater??!!" Todd Hopkins posted on Syracuse.com's Facebook page.

"And the amphitheater was built for what purpose now?...im just kinda confused here...." wrote Victoria Elizabeth.

"lol have the ampitheatre but still using the dome," Syracuse.com user luvthecuse commented.

"When are all of these headlining acts going to be announce at the amphitheater?" wrote commenter Wilson.

There are a number of reasons Luke Bryan and Brad Paisley's concerts won't be at the amphitheater. Most of them are pretty straightforward. Here, for those wondering, are five reasons these two concerts won't be at the shed on the lake:

1. Because it's cold in April in Syracuse
Luke Bryan plays at the Dome on April 9, 2016. It will be cold then, and the amphitheater is an outdoor venue.

2. Because it's colder in January in Syracuse
Brad Paisley is coming to Syracuse in January as part of his winter tour. Most winter tours in the northeast take place at indoor facilities. And, in Syracuse, the Lakeview Amphitheater will likely be buried under a few feet of snow.

3. Because concerts aren't a zero-sum game
A concert at the Carrier Dome does not preclude a concert at the Lakeview Amphitheater. These concerts aren't taking the place of others that might have happened at the amphitheater. Different venues can supplement each other, not cancel one another out.

The other popular argument goes that because the Dome is booking concerts, we didn't need the amphitheater. Ever been to an event inside the Dome in July?

4. Onondaga County doesn't have a booking contract... yet
Onondaga County is finalizing details of a contract with Live Nation to book shows at the new amphitheater. Until that deal is inked, however, Live Nation cannot begin planning concerts.

5. Because it's only October
Concert season at Upstate New York amphitheaters tends to take place between Memorial Day and Labor Day. The earliest any place begins announcing those concerts is usually January (this year, CMAC in Canandaigua announced Kenny Chesney on Jan. 9).

Don't expect to start hearing about amphitheater concerts until early next year. Come spring, there will be a slew of concert announcements at venues across Upstate New York. Some will be at the Lakeview Amphitheater. Others won't. That's the way it works.
